Part of money that many of us hope to get back when we file our taxes will come from Ontario tax credits. Below is an example of some of the credits available.
- Ontario Sales Tax Credit
- You could get up to $260 back. Families can get up to $260 for each family member. You need to file a 2010 tax return to get this money back.
- Ontario Sales Tax Transition Benefit
- Families can receive three payments totalling up to $1,000. If you are single you can get three payments totalling up to $300.
- Ontario Children’s Activity Tax Credit
- If you have children, you can claim up to $500 in eligible expenses for activities, like painting classes, hockey, soccer and music lessons.
- Ontario Child Benefit
- Your family could get back up to $91.66 per child, per month or $1,100 per year for children under 18.
- Ontario Seniors Homeowners` Property Tax Grant
- If you are 64 or older and own a home, you could get up to $500 to help with the cost of property taxes.
- Guaranteed Annual Income System
- If you are 65 or older, you could qualify for up to $996 per year to guarantee a minimum level of income. You need to file a tax return to receive this benefit. Payments are issued monthly and are on top of federal Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement payments.
- Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credits
- If you pay rent or property tax, you can get up to $900 to help with the sales tax on energy costs and property taxes. Seniors could get up to $1,025.
